In order to submit his candidature for selection as an MP in the upcoming general election scheduled for July 4th, Iain Dale has temporarily stepped down as host of his last radio programmed on LBC.

Iain Dale said to his audience during a live broadcast this evening, “You know how much democracy impacts me.” And as everyone who has listened to me for even a little while knows, I have always had two goals in life.

A radio host was one of them, and a member of parliament was the other. The last time I attempted this, the voters rebelled. However, I am currently reentering the race to run in the general election.

“I think I can contribute to the restoration of integrity and confidence in politics, regardless of the outcome. I know I will always regret not at least trying, even if there are no promises I’ll ever be chosen, much less elected.

“I hope you can accept it even if you don’t agree with my political views. I want to express my gratitude to everyone at LBC and Global for their understanding, kindness, and support throughout the years, especially to all of my producers.

Since joining LBC in 2010, Iain has delivered the station’s evening programme, two shows during the US presidential election, four LBC General voting Nightly broadcasts, and night shows during the Scottish and Brexit referendums.

He added: ‘immediately, by broadcast standards, I could legally continue doing this show until Friday, but I’m going to step down immediately. It seems like the correct thing to do.
